Des Moines Veterinary Diagnostic Services
A Fresh Perspective on Your Pet’s Health
When your pet isn’t feeling well, the veterinary team at Marine View Veterinary Hospital is ready to help. We use a variety of diagnostic tools to get a closer look at your pet’s overall health. From a physical exam to laboratory testing, we’re able to see beyond your pet’s fur into their systemic health in order to diagnose what’s ailing them.
Importantly, diagnostic testing is also used in the regular course of your pet’s routine wellness and preventative care. We use regular laboratory testing to keep an eye on your pet’s health throughout their life. This helps us establish a comprehensive medical record so if or when your pet experiences a health problem, we’ll be able to compare new results against our records to more easily pinpoint what might be ailing them.
Laboratory Testing at Marine View Veterinary Hospital
We are an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited facility and are fully equipped with an in-house laboratory to make getting your pet’s lab tests back quickly and efficiently.
We can perform the following laboratory tests:
- Blood chemistry analysis
- Coagulation profiles
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Fecal analysis
- Heartworm testing
- Thyroid function
Each of the above tests provides us with important information about your pet’s health that we might not be able to divine from your pet’s physical exam. We use these detailed results to help us diagnose what might be ailing your pet.
During their regular wellness exams, your veterinarian in Des Moines may also order some simple lab work to establish a baseline of your pet’s health. If your pet ever falls ill, we will be able to use the new lab work to compare against your pet’s earlier results to pinpoint changes.
If your pet ever needs surgery, our veterinary team will order a fresh set of laboratory tests to ensure they are healthy enough to undergo the procedure under anesthesia. These tests will also help us confirm that surgery is an appropriate treatment for your pet’s condition.
Detecting Disease with Laboratory Testing
With regular wellness care and laboratory tests, your veterinarian in Des Moines will be better able to spot the onset of certain diseases early on in their development, without any invasive or expensive procedures.
Laboratory testing can detect diseases such as:
- Feline leukemia
- Intestinal parasites
- Kidney disease
- Urinary tract infections
Laboratory testing can also help us track the progression of the above diseases and many others. When we test your pets early and with regularity, we’ll be better able to protect and preserve your pet’s health for years to come.
